Starting in 2026, US Youth Soccer switched from a calendar year (January 1st) to an August 1st cutoff date. Your child's age on August 1, 2026 determines their age group for the entire 2026-2027 season.

Players born between August 1st and December 31st are called "trapped players" because they'll be among the oldest in their age group and will age up mid-season. This creates unique challenges for roster planning and guest spot opportunities.
